A post…. hey a post! No pictures this time though (is that legal)? Sometimes I think the pictures keep me from posting – even though I love taking pictures – it just adds enough “extra” time that I end up not getting a post written.
So here’s today’s thought. I put this up on facebook on my page wall & in my chat group (hey come like & join both please!)
What are your plans for 2015? Mine is to actually pull out some paper, maybe finish baby albums. For yearly documenting I am just taking pictures at this point…. trying to be intentional about capturing memories, posting to instagram/flickr/facebook with comments so that someday I have that “journaling” to go by.
I have seen a few scrapbookers who were hard core Project Lifers abandon it this year! I think what’s happening to them is they are designers, scrapbookers who liked the simplicity of PL, but ended up just designing very detailed pocket images/pages! That’s more work than they were doing before! Several are shifting to a monthly layout in various forms. I still like the PL concept for those who can stick to the kits…. I have always had a hard time with that & tend to add alot to mine…. thus never finishing!/
Hopefully you are back for week 2! This week I spent alot of time printing Project Life goodies. There are many bloggers making, gifting, selling digital files for Project Life & you can also buy the digital kits that match the Becky Higgins designs on AC Digitals.
My approach last year was to buy the full Cobalt Edition (paper & digital). I haven’t finished my year (whoops), but I did notice as the year went on I was creating more, using less. So this year I bought the album & page protectors but nothing else. And I have already populated much of my first 3 weeks with Clementine that I printed myself using the digital edition. The great thing here – I can tweak the files, only print those I want & use a different edition or my own stash or another designer’s journal cards next week!
So – would you like to know how to quickly & EASILY print multiple journal or title cards on one 8.5×11 sheet? Then tune in – I walk through both Photoshop Elements 11 as well as Aperture. I am using Elements because most new-to-digital scrapbookers start there. If you have Photoshop the concepts are identical but the buttons/layout are slightly different.
Hello and welcome to the first episode of Learn it Tuesday (LiT)! This is my first foray into creating a how-to video – thank you so much for watching!
Project Life Organization. First of all – there are alot of great posts out there on this topic. I wanted to go just a bit into how I organize my photos & then how I lay out a week before printing.
A few notes about technology. I have a Mac mini desktop & a Macbook Pro (ok that isn’t mine – it is my husband’s that I use alot). I use Aperture to organize, crop & do some quick retouching of photos. I also use Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop Elements 11 to edit photos farther & to make use of RadLab to add fun effects. This video focuses on Aperture 3, but the concepts can be used in Lightroom, iPhoto, any other photo organizing software or even your file structure on your computer.
My first attempt at Project Life is this year. On the very positive side I am within a few weeks of caught-up (in my album not the blog)! On the negative side I feel like I am including too many photos and not enough “fun” stuff. I can change that as the year goes on though. I think a key will be to grab fun things as we do them & put them WITH the album. The fun decorations stuff I will have to work on my photo obsession a bit to pare down what I want to print!
I do have a few more December Daily posts to write up & post, but meanwhile I am trying to stay caught up (or nearly so) with my 2012 Project Life. I’m mapping out Week 4-7 this week. So far I have lots of pictures picked, cropped & enhanced. I need to pick which I am using, resize to print & add journaling to a few. Plus of course the rest of the page design.
A few ideas have gotten under my skin in the last year. Most of the bloggers (crafty ones anyway) that I follow have all started doing Becky Higgins’ Project Life in the last year (or in some cases I just started paying attention to it on their blogs). I was ready to dive in mid-2011… but I also really wanted Turquoise & it was sold out so I waited.
I have a confession… I am behind scrapbooking. VERY behind. I have 3 months of my son’s life documented & he turned 3 in November! I have plans & product for everything from birth through 2nd birthday (Nov 2010). So a 2011 Project Life would actually be kinda perfect. I haven’t even printed pictures since his 2nd birthday!!! Bad Mommy…. bad bad bad scrapping Mommy.
Ok, enough beating up on myself! I have started!!!
